HOW TO: Make a 18th Century Dress
We started a sewing project last year called Looking Edgy, which was about up cycling and refashioning denim from the Edge Charity Shop in Brixham. Several local sewing and making groups took part and offered workshops. One of them was SewnByAndrew, who ran workshops helping people make corsets from denim.
Andrew then came to Kate with the idea of Project Pirate - making 18th Century dresses for the annual Pirate Festival in Brixham. The workshops have been running for a few months now and are fully booked. We aim to finish making by the end of March, so that we can do a catwalk with all 14 dressmakers and publicity in advance of the Pirate Festival at the start of May. And then at the festival we shall promenade as a 'pirate' gang and wow the streets with our sass and swagger.
We'll do a full HOW TO: later this year... just thought we'd whet your appetites!
