HOW TO: make a lantern
Brixham has a lanterns and luminations parade once a year. I have no idea of the origins. My friends at A Kick up The Arts - Mark and Sarah Bell - run a series of workshops for schools and the community to make lanterns. They inspired us to make some ourselves. This is our work in progress.
Step 1 - decide on your frame. I'm using three long twigs, tape and wire to make the frames.
Step 2 - put your string of LED lights in.
Step 3 - mix up your papier mache. I'm using recycled tissue paper from packages sent over the years. Layer at least two thick.
Step 4 - review and cover up mistakes. Add colour if you want to.
Step 5 - go out and parade.
